Serious About Survival? CPR and Basic Life Support

Updated: Aug 19, 2021

As someone who understands the responsibility of survivalism and prepping, you may have stores of food and water supplies, maps of egress routes, even hunting equipment and gear to physically protect you and your family. However, when was the last time you took a CPR class?

Are you prepared to act when confronted with a medical emergency? Will you save a life, or will you be a passive bystander? What kind of person do you want to be?

The stability of the future is uncertain- whether facing government shutdowns, wars, apocalyptic scenarios, or even just mundane everyday situations such as sudden unemployment, illness, or injury …OR you could live a long, uneventful life, and dance in the conga line at your 90th birthday. As different as these situations may seem, they all have something in common: at some point, you will be faced with someone who needs help – NOW. It’s not a matter of “if”. It’s a matter of “when”.

Like it or not, your loved ones will get older. Time halts for no one. And heart disease is the number one killer of both men and women in the United States, regardless of race and ethnic group. 1 in 4 American deaths are from heart disease (that’s someone dying every 36 seconds!) Moreover, every year 805,000 Americans have a heart attack – and over 655,000 result in death. But it doesn’t have to be that way. With competent, immediate emergency response, lives can be saved.

Heart attacks are just one possible situation in which emergency care will be needed. If you have children in your household, choking and drowning are constant dangers – do you know what to do to save your child’s life?

It is imperative that any responsible adult take CPR training seriously. There are classes available in most cities across America. It may be one of the most important survival skills you develop.
